The Basilica of Saint-Denis (Saint Denis or Dionysus) is a Gothic style church located in the center of the city of Saint-Denis, 5 km north of Paris. The official burial place of French monarchs since 1122, the basilica represents a return in the history of French architecture and monarchy.
The basilica stands on the site of a Roman-Gallic burial ground, the site of the tomb of St. Denis, considered the first bishop of Paris and martyred around 250 in Montmartre.
With your expert guide, you will know the funerary monuments of kings and queens that have marked the history of France. There were buried, Dagobert, Charles Martel, his son Pepin, the Breve and his grandson Charlemagne. Among others are Catherine de Medici, Francis I, Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette.
